Swan Falls, Idaho

29 09 2007

When you have a gorgeous Idaho Sunday it can be a tough decision to figure out what your going to do. Today we decided to take the boat to the Snake River (one of the 40+ rivers in Idaho!). Leaving Meridian and heading south through Kuna Idaho, we went launched at Swan Falls Dam.

The dam was built in 1901, and is the oldest hydroelectric dam on the Snake River. The original plant is still in place, and they offer tours with advance notice. Swan Falls is also part of the Birds of Prey National Conservation area.

The day itself was absolutely beautiful. Not a cloud in sight! Fishing could have been a bit more productive, but I did manage to hook a fishette :) A baby small mouth bass. The area we were in does have bass, crappie, and trout, but the fish were avoiding us at all cost.

These Coots seemed to be doing a lot better than us with the fish!

Before leaving we had the opportunity to watch a couple of guys parasailing. It was magnificant watching them navigate and know and understand the wind. I’ve got to try that one of these days!

We’re in Boise now! Well, the Boise ‘burbs that is…

Boise. It’s my answer when people ask me where we’ve moved to. But the truth is, we really didn’t move to Boise. We are in Meridian Idaho. Just a hop, skip, and jump away from Boise, but Meridian none the less. Meridian, like quite a few other cities is a sort of Boise suburb. We’re all part of the Treasure Valley.

You’ll hear me talking a lot about the Treasure Valley, and the cities that are part of it in the future. Every city and town is different, and has it’s own personal charm. Just another little thing I love about this place.

Welcome to Boise, Idaho!

So here we are. Boise, Idaho. Well, technically Meridian Idaho, but I’ll explain all of that in my next post.

If your thoughts are anything like mine were a few years ago, your probably thinking, “Idaho?”. What the heck’s in Idaho? Potatoes?

Yep, there are potatoes in Idaho, but I’ve yet to see any growing.

Idaho- Southwestern Idaho to be exact. Friendly people with great family values. A small town feel with big city culture and amenities. Four true seasons. Some of the best year-round outdoor activities in the country. A fabulous economy with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the U.S. Thats exactly what brought us to the Boise area.

GETTING HERE
Most of you know that Gary and I finished up at Quarterhorse Estates in Las Vegas last June. I so needed to get out of the Las Vegas rat race. Although my birth city will always hold a special place in my heart, the heat, traffic, crime, amongst other things had really gotten me down.

I’d done a lot of reading and research on many different cities, primarily in the Northwest, and because of the many positives that the Boise area had to offer, took a trip up and absolutely fell in love!

I thought I’d start blogging since so many friends and family have inquired about this little gem of a place. Give you all a little glimpse of what I’m experiencing here, although being here and experiencing it for yourself is what you really should do!
